About Thai Computer Emergency Response Team
1. Introduction ThaiCERT is one of many computer security incident response teams (CSIRTs) existing around the world. CSIRT is a team or organization which handles, cooperates, and supports incident response on computer systems and networks under constituencies of each CSIRT. Minimum requirements for a CSIRT are:
Having secure communication channels for reporting of incidents.
Assisting its users in handling incidents.
Raising awareness about computer and information security for its users and relevant parties.
Note that CSIRT's staffs does not have to be law enforcers or government officers who have roles in investigation on computer crime. CSIRT's staffs can be normal civilians.
2. History ThaiCERT was established in 2000 under National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) which is a part of National Science and Technology Development Agency, and Ministry of Science and Technology. We became a full member of APCERT (the group of national CERTs in Asia-Pacific) in 2002 and later FIRST member (the group of computer security related organizations around the world) in 2005. We regularly participate in major activities of APCERT and FIRST. In 2008, we also are elected to be a member of APCERT Steering Committee.
3. Roles and Services of ThaiCERT Main objectives of ThaiCERT are similar to most of other CSIRTs. First, we handle the computer crime and coordinate with the related organizations. Second, we develop the knowledge and skill in the information security which is one of critical factor in maintaining stability of Thailand through the cyber world. Third, we established the team which is capable of handling incidences of computer security and continuously improve team’s skill on related area of computer security. Fourth, we also conduct study on security standard and actively develop Thai's version of security standard. Finally, we also conduct a number of researches on security such as computer virus, intrusion detection system, firewall and 2D barcode. ThaiCERT's services are:
